How to replace rear axle?
DATE: 09/16/2008 11:34:03 / MOOD: full of life

My rear D35 is goin out and I have a new one to replace it for now until I save up more $$ to upgrade...

Does anyone know of a site/post that goes through the simple swap?  I just want to make sure I have everything I need to complete this job before I tear into it... Obviously I am new with axle swaps, searched "how to" stuff but haven't really found much...

Thanks,

Difference in '95YJ D30 and D35 vs. '97TJ
DATE: 09/03/2008 01:55:06 / MOOD: full of life

I am trying to replace/rebuild my '97 TJ axles...

I have found a D35 rear and a D30 front with 4.10 gears from a '95 YJ... curious if anyone knows how difficult it is to install axles from a '95 YJ to a '97 TJ... How different are the specs?

The replacements that I found obviously are set up for leaf springs and I have coils... How hard is that to alter and what else am I looking at having to mod?

Shoppin for a D44...
DATE: 08/21/2008 00:34:22 / MOOD: feel like wheelin

I am shopping around for a rear Dana 44 with 3.73 gear ratio or higher (used or new).  Does anyone know of a good site to find axles without killing my entire savings?  I am aware it is going to be a good chunk of $ but trying to be as thrifty as possible...

Already looked at about 20 different JEEP part sites and ofcourse craigslist and Ebay...

 Thanks!

Advice for replacing rear...
DATE: 08/19/2008 00:45:14 / MOOD: disapointed

So... I had a friend/mechanic that was helping me to figure out the issue I was having with my rear. He has now since bailed on me and I am trying to figure out what route to take, without doing more than I need to, to fix the prob...

I have a rear Dana 35 in my 1997 Wrangler. As far as I can tell from rotations the gear ratio is 2.92. The pinion is loose and rattling around. Do I need to replace just seals, ring and pinion, install a Master Overhaul Kit, etc...? And if I do need to go in with replacing gears I definitely want to take it up a notch. I was thinking of going ahead and putting 4.88 ratio in. With that said I know that I will have to do the front as well, which is a Dana 30.

If I am doing all of this, Does it make a difference to just upgrade the gears in a Dana 30 and 35? Or should I not rebuild and instead replace... going with Dana 40's?

I am so confused and do not know if anyone can assist with my dilemma without being able to look at my rig to analyze the problem...

If you live in Greensboro and wanna tinker, feel free! I will take any solid advice at this point rather than going to a mechanic that will probably advise me to replace all of it so they can make a pretty penny...
