Log Pile Loser
DATE: 07/14/2007 03:33:20 / MOOD: feel like wheelin

Not so long ago on a trail not so far away. I was wheeling got the great idea of climbing this big pile of logs that was on the side of the trail. In order to get to I had to climb a mostly vertical wall about 3' high, at the top of this wall was the first of a pyramid of logs about 10' tall. Are you getting a mental picture yet? Well suprisingly I got over the climb and almost all te way to the top of this pyramid of logs when a basic law of physics occurred to me, the hard way. Yes, would you believe it round objects are easy persuaded to roll down hill!!!

Now don't forget that me and my jeep are on top of this whole crazy mess. Oh, now you're getting the picture. All said and done I end up twenty or so feet down an embankment with all four tire craddled by logs two to two and a half feet in diameter, and about 30 feet long. Did you know that logs of that particular size are heavy, very heavy?

But I have a 10,000 pound winch it'll be ok? Other than winches need something to anchor to. Well where do you think those trees came from. Ya you gessed it there wasn't anything more than a foot above the ground for at least 200 yards and I only have 100 feet of cable on my winch. My buddy comes up with the great idea pull from one of the trees downed from the pile, but I only needed to learn that lesson once in a day, remember round objects roll downhill very easily, and i didn't feel like having one of these heavy items on top of my jeep!!!

So we broke out the hi-lift jack and after over an hour and a half of hiking for the biggest rocks we could carry, digging, prying, hi-lifting, and praying we didn't end up under a log. I went back and called it an early day.

By the way if you were logging in the Enumclaw area and came to work the Thursday after the 4rth to an absolute mess. I am sorry
