tweeking the mirror extensions
DATE: 09/15/2008 12:21:35 / MOOD: feel like wheelin
ok, after adjusting, tweeking and fighting with my mirror extension tabs for the relocation brackets, i finally got it straight. the tabs were cut 7" long, so that gave me plenty of room to fold the passenger side forward like on the cj's. now i can veiw it thru the windshield. the tab on the passenger side presented me with the problem of vibrations, so i cut it down to 3 1/2" and remounted it. this arrangement also saves my nerves from all the parking lot dimwits, who always seem to be able to find my mirrors and bump them out of alignment. kinda messed up, considering that i park in the back, by myself.......oh well, what can you do about some peoples ignorance? Extension tabs for mirror relocators

if you purchased mirror relocation brackets, you've likely discovered that you can't see your mirrors too well with the top skins in (i don't know about hard doors) i used 5/8" thick aluminum plate, cut to 7" x 1 1/2" and drilled a couple of 7/8" holes (the holes could of been bigger, but wiggling the drill around did the trick). i used a piece of heavy duty plastic pipe (the grey stuff) to cover the mirror mounting pins. shot some black paint on (even touched up the mirror arms while i was at it). it works out pretty good, still gotta do some tweeking, but it's alot better than it was....now to try to post pix

spreader bar pads
DATE: 04/08/2008 09:44:25 / MOOD: feel like wheelin
anybody with an older jeep that has the top spreader bars mounted up top, may want to try this. i got tired of the spreaders poking holes in my top, so i bought a length of 1/2" inside diameter foam pipe insulation. i cut it to length and fit it over the spreaders, it keeps the edges of the bend joint from wearing on the top. after driving from work, i noticed that the top wasn't slapping as much, so i took the remaining peice and cut it in half, then slid it onto the rear uprite bars (about 2 inches up from the fender box). now my top doesn't slap at all. this is a REAL cheap fix, it only cost me $1.03
i don't know if this format accepts photobucket i can't get the pictures to load here, i have them on my page in the photos, if you wanna see them. View Entry |
