Graduated last year from Ferris State and got a job at Grand Haven Twp Fire Rescue. I'm 21 and have wanted a Wrangler my whole life. I just traded my 1996 Ford F-150 Std. cab short bed 4x4 5.8L for a 1995 Jeep Wrangler 4cyl. Some people thoguht I was out of my mind but I disagree.

I have a 1995 Jeep Wrangler with 165,000 miles on the body. The guy I traded with say he put a newer 4cly in it, looks to be a chevy motor (unsure) it has about 155,000 miles on it. It's a five speed. All gearing is stock on it right now. It has a 3" Body Lift and is sitting on 31"x10.5" tires. It also has a single 3" tube front bummper.

Rock Crawler Front and Rear Bummpers. KC lights all around. Bigger Tires along with suspention lift. Many other little things but I'm not sure yet. Give some ideas people!

There just isn't enough torque to push a square box with the axles and wheels exposed and pull 5th over a certain speed.  The higher the gear the less torque you have.  Wind resistance and rolling mass is hard for a smaller motor.  I was always cool with it but I never expected anything to much out of the 2.5 as far as speed.  All that said the 2.5 is a powerful motor for it's size, supposedly its not that difficult to swap in 3.0 gm boat motor there basically the same engine.

lookin good....i did 4.88's and 85lb. swampers for 4 years , 80,000 miles with a 2.5 just no fifth over 55 and would do 70-72 boarded with no headwindin 4th... 200 miles a week of boarding it for the cummute...it loved every second of it especially when the egglike swampers got bouncingand the dash shifted 2 inches side to side

I'm running 35x12.50's with 4:10 gears and a 2.5 engine. It's not an interstate cruiser by any means. But I can run the 70 mph speedlimit for the most part until I hit a big hill. But for just driving around locally here it does just fine and get 21 mpg. The rear tubes are welded to the quarter gaurds I made then 5/16 bolts all around the edge you can see it in the pics.
