I'm 19 go to school for automotive mechanics. Ive owned two jeeps...a TJ and now an XJ. I do all my own work to my jeep... if you can do it dont let another person touch it
Its a 99 Cherokee sport... I have a 6.5 inch rough country lift with 35x12.50x15...about to be a 8.5 with the 2 inch coil spacer and 2 inch rear block
It was a 98 TJ 4 Banger. I had a 2 inch budget boost on it and 31x10.50x15... it was a turd but it still ran like a raped ape with 160,000 on it and it never did me wrong
lockers front N rear, rock krawler bumper, hella black magic fogs& some skids

yeah the 3'-5/8' is just 1/8' less than the 3.75', and they rub a little on the back of the wheel well but thats because my control arms are too short for my liftFrom: VERYmadMike

Well since the fiance destroyed her 8' wheels last summer I got a set of swap meet wheels with the same backspacing that was on the 8' (New wheels are 10') got em cheap so I tried em and they dont rub any more than they ever did. Still couldnt tell ya what it is and the jeep is packed away in cold storage as abuse has made it scary for daily driving. Trying too find a new rust free body for her. The new wheels definitely stick out and you are going to have to cut for sure if you havent yet. From: BlueThunder

yeah i have a few rattles and thumps when i hit bumps, mine are caused by the steering and shocks, yours could be the control arm bushing though, it just depends on how worn out they are. and on my wheels im running 15X10s with 3-5/8 back spacingFrom: BlueThunder

I haven't heard much about rock krawler suspensions, but for what they include in the long arm upgrade the price seems high, if your looking to spend that much on a long arm kit you might want to look at [link='http://www.gotreks.com/page.asp?pageid=169] Trecks Y-Link upgrade [/link] it cost a couple hundred more but is a stronger design. Oh and DONT WASTE MONEY ON THE D35!!!!!! At least get a chrysler 8.25 Im actually surprised youd have a D35 and not the 8.25. I havent seen your year with a d35. Weve had good luck with a 96 Exlporerer 8.8. slightly narrow but with discs and the same bolt pattern. Early scouts and FSJs have D44 but you have to change the bolt pattern. It is wise to use what you got til you can afford what you want. Spend more so you spend once! Cheap lockers suck! I bet your D30 will be fine for you also. Just maintain everything!

long arms I feel should be mandatory at 6 or more inches of lift. They ride better because of the increased leverage created. Also they allow more travel with less bind. Detroit locker is strong and reliable. You have to get used to them but we have 20,000 trouble free miles on ours. We still drive ours regular on the street and highway. The expense is worth the traction! From: BlueThunder

i dont know for sure on a cherokee, but a long arm kit should improve ride quality. i've rode in lifted wranglers with both short arm kits and long arm kits and on them the difference in ride quality was like night and day. From: VERYmadMike

Good job! You loving it? Wait til you get gears and at least a rear locker. Make sure your steering doesnt hit your swaybar mount on the axle when one front wheel is stuffed. Our drag link would hit and lock the steering up. I cut the mounts off the axle and forgot about swaybars all together. |
