This is for all you guys who like to take the top off to go cruising or off-roading, and then suddenly there is a dust storm or rain. Your interior gets soaked and or filthy and you have to spend the weekend taking care of that rather than driving your jeep. Wouldn’t it be nice to just flip a switch and everything is taken car of? I am an amateur mechanic and engineer, I have made a number of custom parts for my YJ, but none like this and I wanted to know if any one else would be interested, or would like to comment on this idea. I have started drawing up some design plans for the convertible top for my YJ, it shouldn’t be that difficult to modify the design to fit other jeeps. The key specification of this design is that it bolts on just like your hard top. You will have the rear end which bolts on the back of your wrangler and then the front unit, which bolts on the windshield and roll bars. The front end is responsible for making an airtight and water proof seal and holds the top in a tight position so that it doesn’t flap around. I decided to build the whole mechanism out of stainless steel, the rear mount out of aluminum and the front end out of Fiberglass. The fiberglass, Stainless steel and aluminum will cost around $200. I am still looking for cheap motors, and for the right fabric to make the top. I feel confident that this top can be build for under $1300, and made of high quality materials. Top Down: Top Up: |
