Okay so last week I upgraded a few things that have to do with air flow... here is my impression so far. Upgrades performed.... AEM Brute Force Cold Air Intake w/ Throttle Body Spacer ($262) Throttle Body Rebuild Kit ($14) Pace Setter TFX Cat Back Exhaust ($185) Results Gas Milage Increase: 2-3 mpg Horse Power Increase: 24 at the rear tires Pre Upgrade Test: 192 hp at the rear tires Post Upgrade Test: 216 hp at the rear tires All in all not bad. Keep in mind I have a good friend that works in a performance shop so I had access to testing equipment so that was cool. Unfortunately I didn't have access to all their tools and lifts because they were backed up, but they tested it for me for a small fee of a case of Corona! Got to love some people. Installation took me a full day but that was primarily because the process also seemed to involve a few cases of beer. Funny how that happens. Thankfully I had a voice of reason (my wife) telling me to stop and continue in the moring before I ended up doing something stupid, like cut the brake lines while cutting away the tail pipe. Besides nothing kills a hang over like working on your jeep and having beer spam and eggs for breakfast! Oh and the sound quality is superb. It actually quieted everything a little and there is a nice resonate rumble. There is a kid that lives across the street from me who owns a jeep. He actually came over and asked if I had put in a V-8! Amazing what freeing up the air flow will do.
Bottom line, so far it has been worth it. For all of my hard corps mudders, I kept my original intake so I can throw it on if I am doing some rough mudding and just in case I go with a snorkle in the future. Also I am more into climbing trails then mudding so I can't really see worrying about the filter getting to dirty. Besides it's cleanable. Just no risky fording for me for the moment.
