This is the last post here for a while - promise!! If you have seen the pics of my "wrecker" you can see how the "rollbar" if you want to call it snapped off around the bolts that hold it to the windshield frame, and how the frame just "smushed" under the weight. This is not good. I LOVE my stock roll bar, and I would never want a four corner like the newer Jeeps, but I was thinking...... Anyone have an aftermarket bar on a YJ?? What I'm thinking is keep my old bar, but add a bar that follows the curve of the windshield frame and mounts right up against it and then weld it to the floor?? firewall?? (umm.. still sketchy on that part). Then possibly weld in bars between the then "front" and "rear" roll bars where the old broken POS's were?? Not that those parts are really necessary, but just would keep some of its original look. COmments, suggestions?? The front bar would cover my front speakers.. but then I dont have speakers in them anyway. The front bar may add to the already sizeable blind spot on the corners?? Would have to remount the bikini top bracket & possibly the visors - no biggie.

sounds like your looking for the rollbar i have in my CJ. The PO added a plate on the floor of the tub, where the drivers left foot/passenger right foot would be. The tube runs up along the dash (covering my empty speaker holes lol) then along the follows the windshield frame. I used hoseclamps to relocate visor to this tube. No problem with hardtop/softop/bikini top. There are YJ-style horzontal bars connecting the front hoop to the main factory hoop. Everything is welded in place. I've never had it upsaide down, but its held up to the 3 flops i can remember. Sorry, I dunno if its custom-made or aftermarket, but it would be easy for anyone who knows what they're doing to copy.

Thanks "T" ! I can see your bar in the pictures, yep, thats pretty much what I was thinking. Good to know I have a workable idea. I think i may have something bent in the ass end of the Jeep too. Course it may just be the undersized spare tire on the back making something look off. I'll have to wait and see what I find when I get into it. I may contact you later for more pics of how your bar is mounted. THanks for the info!! --------------------------------------------------------------

Any competent fab should be able to bend up a front tube for your rollcage, even if you weld it in yourself. You will want plates at the bottom to spread out the load. Best case scenario, you extend bars from there to the frame. Worst case, put another plate on the bottom w/ bolts thru it to sandwich the body and distribute the force load. Other kits are available from Poison Spyder and also Off Road Unlimited. |
