So I come home this weekend from school excited that it was my dads birthday (he was in a bad accident the beginning of March, in which he is lucky to be here). I also ordered my new soft top and was going to put that on and drive the Jeep back down to Springfield instead of the truck. Good news first, I got the soft top on and looking good. Bad news: took it for a drive in the middle of the day and the rear driveshaft u-joint decided to blow. (I think the U-joint straps screws worked loose, causing slop and leading to the u-joint failing, I wasn't even on the Jeep hard) So I had to pull over and run back home (roughly 1 mile uphill, luckily I just left the house) grab the truck and get the tools...pulled the driveshaft and drove home on the front axle in 4wd.
More bad news: the u-joint strap bolt sheared off inside of the pinion yoke shaft , so it's not just a simple fix of replacing the u-joint in the rear ds and going on my way.
I'm waiting until I get back from school in May to replace the Pinion Yoke Shaft, a new rear ds u-joint, and some spare strap&bolt kits & spare u-joints. The sad thing was that I was going to change the oil and scan over the whole undercarriage tightening and making sure everything was snug, talk about a little to late !
MORAL OF THE STORY: remember to check your driveshaft u-straps and bolts at every oil change to make sure they are tight.

Here's what I'm planning on doing, the yoke is still in good shape, the bolt and strap took most of the beating..I'm going to drill the broken bolt out and drill out the other bolt holes and adapt it over to u-bolts instead! easy enough and I don't have to worry about getting a new yoke shaft.
