I'm a Fire Fighter/Medic (20years). I'm also the proud Dad to 4 little girls (pray for me). Growing up on a farm I learned how to drive at an early age on an old Int. 4x4 and the tractors my Dad had. I've owned 3 Jeeps, an '84 CJ-8, an '84 XJ and currently an '87 YJ.
I bought my YJ last fall. I got it pretty cheap knowing that it needs ALLOT of work. The odom. shows 201k! The miles and the years of NY road salt have taken their toll.
My 13 year old daughter misses trail rides in my old CJ so, she wants to help fix up the Wrangler. I love this kid! Now that it's warmer out we can get started.
Found a BIG rust hole in the frame... oh yeah, I said dirty words! Lets see, it won't pass NYS inspection so I guess it's still good for parts, huh?
Damn I'm lucky! One week after the frame on my YJ craps-out, I find a solid '87 YJ!
I get a call from a friend of a friend, he asks if I am looking for a parts Jeep. I play it cool... I tell him that I only need a parts beater. He says his needs an engine but the body's has some life left in it. I told him I'd take a look.
I'm saved! It's an'87 YJ 258cid, 5 speed with 91k on the meter. This thing has a solid body, frame and my engine will drop right in!
So, I part with $500 and load it on our trailer for the trip home.
Engine rebuild, 4" lift, 33" tires, HD front and rear bumpers w/winch and tire carrier, KC lights

05/08/2008 12:35:19 looks like yo lucked out with the parts YJ. Be careful with the BA10 5 spd from the 87's, they're leftover from the Renault-AMC days. They're hard to find used because they are such POS the demand has far exceeded the demand

Hey friend- all´s well here. I made our comps well so I´m invated to the german trail masters now. Hehe. Cool. And in normal life- I also have a lot of work. I can understand you having less time for the other things- take care of yourself.
